The Benefits Of Beard Oil & Beard Balm

When it comes to beard care products, there is an abundance of choices on the market. Sometimes it can be a little confusing picking the correct Beard care product that will give you the desired results your looking for. In this blog we discuss what beard oil and beard balm is, and what their benefits are.

What is Beard Oil?

Beard oil is a personal care product that is used as a leave in conditioner to moisturize the skin under the beard, as well as the beard itself in order to keep it healthy, soft, shiny and moisturized. Beard oil mimics the natural oils produced by the skin, such as sebum, and is composed mainly of carrier oils and essential oils.

Beard oil products are used to address specific beard problems such as itching, sensitive skin or dryness and act as a moisturizer that goes straight to the hair follicle and prevents hair from growing brittle. The natural oils in beard oil improves the way your beard looks by giving it a little shine, helps to promote healthy hair growth and makes the beard look and feel healthier.

What is Beard Balm?

Beard balm is a product with a mixture of several ingredients, most of which include things such as Beeswax, Shea butter, essential oils and natural carrier oils. Its purpose is to help keep your beard conditioned, healthy and to act as a styling agent to provide control and tame flyaway hairs. When you use beard balm, your beard will look and present a whole lot better. Instead of looking dry and frizzled out, beard balm will help make sure that your beard simply looks great and well groomed.

Beeswax in beard balm gives your beard a hold and styling properties. In addition to giving you a better hold on your beard, beeswax also helps to lock in moisture.

Shea butter adds a couple layers of benefits when it comes to beard balm.  First off, its extremely rich in moisture. Natural butters help provide an ample amount of moisture for your beard. This is critical, especially if you live in a cooler or dry climate. The butter in beard balm makes sure that your beard will remain healthy and conditioned throughout the day. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, is that butters actually improve the spread ability of the balm itself.

  • Hi Eric,

We recommend using beard oil before beard balm. The beeswax in the beard balm will help seal in moisturize.

  • This may sound like a silly question, but I’m new to the entire beard game (as a chef, I found it easier to keep clean shaven). I’ve heard that beard balm seals in moisture. If I use balm before beard oil, am I actually sealing the oil out, or does it not work that way? Thanks for your help.
